Barkly Highway State School - Term 3 Week 10
Principal's Welcome
Welcome to Week 10!
Our school community has had a very busy term.
Our participation in all Term 3 activities has definitely been rewarding. The move to a Virtual Isa Parade, presented our very creative teachers and parents a challenge to participate with a float like no other that has been done before. Lots of fun and excitement was had by everyone who participated. Our student school leaders, Griffynn and Mason, attended the presentation at the Council Chambers with Mrs Cremona and Miss Samios and were presented $500, for our entry.
The brainstorming of what to spend the school’s winnings on has begun. One popular idea is a school mascot. What do you think?
FAREWELL FOR TERM 4, MISS MCKENNA!
This week, Miss McKenna will be saying farewell to her 2021 students and passing the reins of I Blue into the safe hands of Nicole Liu and Codie Iddles who will be working together in Term 4. While Miss McKenna’s involvement in our school community will be missed, I know you will join with me to wish her well on her transition to leading Dajarra State School until the end of the year.
YEAR 6 CAMP
Last Sunday evening, after a delay in the flight arriving from Brisbane, 39 of our Year 6 students with 3 teachers, departed for 5 days at the Tallebudgera Beach School. While many discussions were held regarding the risks and identifying strategies for “what if situations”, from camp reports and photos posted, they have participated in the activities as planned. Next newsletter, we will hear from the students’ perspective of the camp.
Have a relaxing and safe holiday, everyone!
Regards,
Fiona Kropp
Deputy's Report
Attendance – at Barkly Highway State School Every Day Counts!
This week on Monday, the attendance for ALL our students was 89.7% for the year to date. Our school target is 95% attendance for all students.
Congratulations to the 232 students with 90%+ attendance for term 3.
To acknowledge the importance of attendance over a term, students have enjoyed an Early Playtime from 12:55 -1:10 on Wednesday.
As we are nearing the end of term, our teachers are planning activities to ensure that the learning in the classrooms and playground continues until 2:30pm Friday 17 September, the last day of Term 3. This week, classroom learning will be based on the curriculum knowledge and understanding from this term’s class work that may require consolidation or extension.
We continue to promote the message to our students and families that “every day, every student is learning” and we expect to see every student at school enjoying the learning from 8:25 every morning until Friday 2:30pm. Thank you to everyone for supporting the school in this regard.
Looking forward to everyone returning to school on Tuesday 5th October happy, healthy and ready to continue learning.
Enjoy the spring holidays.
Kind regards
Cheryl Gallagher
Colour Run
Last Thursday, our school headed out to the oval for a colourful afternoon of fun! It is the 3rd time our P&C have participated in the fundraising event. To date we have raised $19 961.63.The P&C along with the student body have been working towards purchasing all needed equipment for the school playground, goal posts and new oval equipment. We thank families and the community for their support.
P&C Association
Last weekend, Candice Turner (Treasurer) and Leah Wilcox (Secretary) went to Brisbane to attend the annual P&C conference. The theme this year was Strategy and Adaptation. They met with P&C members from around the state, spent time networking with others and learning about how effective P&Cs run. Some of the sessions they attended included: grant writing, effective fundraising strategies and managing a tuckshop.
Our P&C meet on the first Tuesday of every month from 6:00pm. From October 6, we will be meeting in a new location, the Resource Centre (Library). The P&C are always looking for parents to come to the meeting and see how it works.
Prep Blue News
Our Prep gardens have been overflowing with delicious produce so we decided to create a feast and harvest fresh vegetables and herbs for our cooking.
We made a silverbeet dip, a lettuce and carrot salad and a spinach, basil and pesto dinosaur pasta. We even had a fruit punch using mint from our garden and fruits from some of our classmates! It was a very exciting day for the class and I am very happy to report almost everyone tasted something we cooked (and quite a few went back for more!!)
