Barkly Highway State School - Term 2 Week 10
Principal's Welcome
At the end of each term, we continue to celebrate students who have had a 90% -100% attendance for the term.
While there have been classes that have celebrated consecutive 100% attendance like 2 Blue, some lower classes have had only 7 – 10 students attending. Our year 5/6 students’ amazing attendance of 93.3% (YTD) has been acknowledged throughout the year, along with their commitment to being at school, so to their dedication to their engagement to learning in the classroom.
NAIDOC WEEK AT OUR SCHOOL
NAIDOC week 2022 is being held from Sunday 3 July to Sunday 10 July – second week of our school holidays.
The theme this year is “Get up! Stand up! Show up!”
Tomorrow, Friday 30 June our school will participate in NAIDOC activities. Our school NAIDOC team has prepared a special parade and many activities for the students.
Please come along and enjoy the day with your child/ren.
The following is the schedule for the day outside the classroom:
We hope to see you there.
We have so much to celebrate as we finalise Term 2, both in and out of the classroom. Thank you to our families for your ongoing support and we look forward to continuing our work together in the future.
Wishing you all a relaxing break from school routines and we will see you all on your return on the first day of term 3, Monday 11 July.
K-2 Deputy's News
What an amazing semester we have just completed!
Our students have had fun learning this semester and need to be commended for their enthusiasm when undertaking new learnings experiences.
I would also like to acknowledge and thank our teachers that work endlessly to ensure they are catering for the needs and interests of all our students.
This term our teachers have been working with other schools and teachers across Mount Isa to lead the implementation of Age Appropriate Pedagogies (AAP) in their classrooms.
They have also worked collaboratively to support all children in our P-2 space each week with an early P-2 Monday morning meeting, AAP mathematic days and during Collaborative Inquiries.
At Barkly Highway State School we recognise the rate of student learning increases when teachers in collaborative teams support one another to develop their skills in specific teaching strategies.
Students learn even faster when highly skilled teachers lead collaborative teams focused on understanding of what is working and why.
On Tuesday our P-2 Sports Day was full of action and fun.

Finally I’d like to thank all parents and community partnerships that have supported us this semester to ensure our students are successful, happy learners.
Have a wonderful break, I’m looking forward to seeing you all next term.

3 Blue STEM Challenge
This week in 3 Blue some students have been undertaking a STEM challenge. This weeks challenge was for students to work collaboratively to build a structure out of paper that would hold a book.
School Opinion Survey
The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted in Term 3 and will close on 12 August 2022. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5 and 6) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.
An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one parent/caregiver per famiy prior to the 18 July. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2022. Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone.
Parents/caregivers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to complete their survey online at the school. Our school computers will be available for use at school in the STEM Room in the Resource Centre from 8:30-9:00 on these dates: Tuesday 19 Jul, Tuesday 26 Jul, Tuesday 2 Aug & Tuesday 9 Aug. One of our Information and Technology Technicians (Darrel Kropp or Jack Carpenter) will be available to support you to access the survey.
Interschool Netball Gala Day
On Thursday, 23 June 10 selected students from BHSS went to Wellington Oval to compete in a round-robin style competition over one gala day with other schools across Mount Isa.
