Barkly Highway State School - Term 1 Week 4
Principal's Welcome
We often hear the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child," and nowhere is this more evident than in our school community. Parent engagement and involvement in your child's schooling are vital ingredients for their success. When parents actively participate in school activities, attend parent-teacher meetings, volunteer in classrooms, and engage in their child's learning journey, it sends a powerful message to our young learners. It shows them that their education matters not only to themselves but also to the important adults in their lives. Research consistently demonstrates that children whose parents are actively involved in their education tend to perform better academically, have better attendance records, and demonstrate more positive attitudes toward school.
By continuing the work together as partners in education, we will provide our children with the support and encouragement they need to thrive academically and personally.
Our recent “Meet the teacher” afternoon, 52 families attended. We always welcome your feedback on these organised opportunities and ideas from families on what more we can do.
Tomorrow we have our Leadership Parade and so look forward to your attendance and the additional excitement that these important events bring to our school.
Kind regards,
Fiona Kropp

Week 4 and we are off to a flying start!
Prep students and teachers have been working very hard so far this term and it is certainly showing. Our prep students are well on their way to becoming confident readers and writers and it is so exciting to see the progress they are making in such a short time.
In Year 1 and 2 we have some amazing up-and-coming poets who are using their wonderful imaginations to innovate on a poem and create a new one all of their own. Once again our teachers are working hard to provide engaging classroom learning activities to engage their students.
Chat to your child at home about what they are learning!
Everyday Counts!
Being at school every day counts. There is important learning happening in all of our classrooms every day. If your child is absent one day per week, this quickly adds up to two months of missed school in a year. At Barkly Highway State School our whole school attendance target is 90%. Currently in our Prep-Year 2 space we are sitting at 91.5%. Lets work hard together to keep improving this percentage and increasing our students chance of success!
Please note if you’re child is unwell please reply to the text message at any time or phone the school and leave a message to avoid a weekly call for unexplained absences.
Kind regards,
Yvette Wehlow

Entry and Exit into the school
Friendly reminder to walk your bike and scooters across the zebra crossing. Miss Linda will be at the crossing to greet you every morning and afternoon on Buka Street.
Remember that you must walk your bike/scooters when you enter and exit the school grounds. Ensure you use a lock for your bike, remove your helmet once your bike/scooter is secure.
Bravehearts
Ditto and the Bravehearts team came to school on Monday and spoke to our Prep to two students. The students were very engaged in Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Program, singing and dancing along. The program is curriculum aligned with the Australian Curriculum.
Maths in 1 Blue
Year One students have had a fabulous time learning how to use their agency to engage in math exploration stations each week. Each activity allows for students to participate in hands-on, play-based learning experiences, while strengthening their skills in number, geometry, and data collection.
