Barkly Highway State School - Term 4 Week 2
Principal's Welcome
Welcome back to Term 4!
2024 is a year which Term 4 is a week longer than other years. In Mount Isa, Term 4 is 10 weeks long, however, our end of year, whole school Term 4 events are still scheduled for week 9 with only the end of year class celebrations to be held on Thursday week 10.
It’s Rock Pop Mime at Tony White Oval, tomorrow evening. Around 30 of our students with 2 time-poor teachers have dedicated lunchtimes, holidays and many weekends for the last 12 weeks to prepare for the students’ performance. This year, we have a combined school team from across Prep to year 6 to perform. I acknowledge here the commitment of our Rock Pop lead teachers - Bec Samios and Nicole Liu. Our school is only able to participate in this high-profile community event for schools in Mount Isa and the district when we have this dedication from lead teachers. Thank you to the parents who have also committed time to the required practice sessions outside of school hours and generously given their time to assist with the props and costumes.
Final rehearsals have now been completed, on parade on Monday and at Tony White Oval stage. Please go along and support the school’s performances. Good luck to our Rock Pop Mime team on Friday evening.
Thank you everyone for supporting our students and teachers who are excited to finally be on stage in costumes and the bright lights!
LOOKING FORWARD …
We commenced the analysis of school data by reflecting on classroom learning results that has occurred up to the end of Term 3. This also included our Project 1000 (P - year 2) and Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) year 5-8 academic transition data, along with the feedback from the 2024 School Opinion Survey and our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) data. The data analysis is used to inform the priority areas of the Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) including establishing targets and strategies for 2025. The 2025 AIP will be presented to the P&C during this process.
Last week, on Friday, our Term Overviews were sent home from each classroom teacher. Term Overviews inform families of the specific details of the curriculum for the year level and requirements of the class. Contact your classroom teacher if you have not received your copy.
Please take the time to read our newsletters and communicate with your child's teacher if you have any concerns or questions. We look forward to a successful and productive term ahead and thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Fiona Kropp
Exciting Times in 4 Blue!
For the first six weeks, we are thrilled to welcome Mr. Munns, a practicum student, to our classroom. Mr. Munns will be learning alongside us, and he’s eager to dive into our English lessons, especially focusing on advertisements.
In addition, we had a special visit from an author last week. The students were captivated as they listened to stories and learned about the writing process. It was inspiring to see how creativity can turn ideas into amazing books! The school purchased a selection of their books and will be available from the library to borrow.
Kind regards,
Miss Teede

Library News
Term 4 is here with excitement in the library just around the corner.
We have handed out Book Club Issue #7, with orders due back this Friday, 11 October if you wish to order.
We will hold our second Book Fair for the year from Monday 21 October - Friday 25 October. You are able to come and browse and purchase books from our Fair. We will be open from 8:00 -3:00 Monday to Thursday and 8:00-11:00 on Friday. This is a great opportunity to support your school through this fundraiser and purchase a few stocking fillers, already!
We are noticing a number of long-term overdue books. We would greatly appreciate your help in finding those books and returning them to the library, so they can be enjoyed by others as well. If you can not locate a missing book, the school would appreciate for you to financially help cover the costs, so we can replace the book.
With the weather warming up, students really enjoy using the library space during first break. Students are able to read, play games, use computers, draw or just hang out.
As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us with any queries you may have.
Kind regards,
Svenja Spitzner-Lewis
