Barkly Highway State School - Term 4 Week 4
Principal's Welcome
WELCOME TO OUR WEEK 4 NEWSLETTER!
At the last P&C Association’s General Meeting it was confirmed that the very successful “Slip & Splash” event held in previous years, will be held on the school oval, week 10, Wednesday 4 December. This is a school event for our families only, so save this date! If you are able to assist on the afternoon, I encourage you to contact Mischa Grummitt (0478 242 846). All parents are encouraged and welcome at our P&C Meetings which are held on the second Tuesday of each month during the school term.
2025 CLASS ORGANISATION
The review of our current student numbers confirm that we have a decrease in our numbers which has been anticipated due to our largest year level for the last few years, our year 6 cohort (59 students) moving onto high school. From the current 2025 prep transition information, we anticipate welcoming 40-44 new preps.
The current teaching staff, which includes classroom teachers, specialist teachers and SEP teachers are working on a plan of 11 classrooms to start the new year. If you have been associated with a Queensland State School, the terminology, “day 8”, is not new. This is the timeframe when the staffing of a school is finalised. Class and teacher allocation is only temporary until this date, as changes in school organisation, (classrooms, teachers) may occur.
At recent P&C Meetings, the 2025 classroom organisation plans were presented. As in previous years, composite classes (also known as multi-age / split grade) will be created to address the varying student enrolment across year levels. An information session for parents will be held later in the term, to discuss the use of multi-age class structures (composite classes).
It is important that we know the expected enrolment and so we have requested that families who are not returning to the school in 2025 inform the school, as soon as possible. I also encourage families who are still to enrol, especially with Prep aged students, turning 5 by 30 June 2020, to contact the school for enrolment packages immediately.
Kind regards,
Fiona Kropp
Mrs Roberts Report
All year 5 students have been challenged by their classroom teachers to consider student leadership in our school in 2025. In week 3, year 5 students met with me to discuss the role our School Captain and School Vice-Captain have in the school. Students who showed an interest in nominating for School Captain/Vice Captain received the Student Leadership paperwork and submitted their application, including a nomination form signed by their classroom teacher and a parent/ carer on Monday. In the following weeks, short-listed students will be asked to have an interview, present a speech to year 4 and 5 students, with voting by year 4 and 5 students and all staff before School Captains are announced on the Prep to Year 5 Awards Parade (Monday 25 November). While the School Captain process is conducted at the end of the year with the year 5 students, the House Captain process is early in Term 1 and students will be informed of this by Miss Wheeler in 2025.
Kind regards,
Kamrynn Roberts

Our Book Fair is still in full swing and open this afternoon until 3:00. Tomorrow, Friday 25 October between 8:00 - 11:00 is your last chance to purchase a book.
We have a great variety of books and more for all ages and plenty of stock. So come on down and browse with your child. Maybe even find an early stocking filler!
If we've had to re-order an item, it will be sent to your child’s class once it has arrived.
